Della Lamb Community Services Leadership:
Executive Director Ryan Hudnall
How do we build a kinder Kansas City?
This question and contemplations on the heart of Kansas City prompted Ryan Hudnall’s acceptance as the new Executive Director of Della Lamb Community Services in August 2019. Hudnall succeeded Judy Akers, who retired from Della Lamb in December 2019 after 40 years of service.
Hudnall’s path to Della Lamb is marked by key relationships, experiences, and moments that have shaped the course of his life. A graduate from Truman State University, Hudnall was named co-valedictorian, Wall Street Journal Award recipient, and Graduate Accounting Student of the Year. After college, Hudnall joined international public accounting firm KPMG LLP in Kansas City, MO, serving in the audit practice. During his time at KPMG, Hudnall obtained his Certified Public Accountant license, was promoted to firm management, and led audit engagements in varied industries, including software, insurance brokerage, and manufacturing. While at KPMG, Hudnall was granted multiple sabbaticals to travel and to reflect upon issues facing those across the globe. In 2014, Hudnall spent six months in Haiti, focusing on the intersection of poverty, orphan care, education, and economic development.
In 2015, Hudnall joined The Global Orphan Project as Engagement Director, leading and supporting development efforts for international and domestic initiatives. During his time at The Global Orphan Project, he helped launch a cloud-based platform to address real-time needs of children in or on the brink of entering the US foster care system, garnered funding to build a vocational / life-skills school for children transitioning out of orphan care in Haiti, developed partnerships to fund life care costs and primary school for hundreds of children across the globe, and led multiple vision trips to developing nations to share about the complexities of orphan care and orphan prevention. He has spent hundreds of hours with orphaned and vulnerable children, reflecting upon and dreaming about the possibilities for their lives. In February 2017, Hudnall traveled to Lebanon to gain a greater understanding of the orphan and refugee crisis resulting from the Syrian Civil War. During that trip, he was humbled by the hospitality of the refugees he met, and God planted a vision for a new era of refugee services in Kansas City.
Hudnall is a follower of Jesus Christ, and Christ’s grace, mercy, and love challenge, humble, and inspire him daily. He attributes his enthusiasm for early education to his mother, who has served as a first-grade teacher and a church librarian. He is married to Sadye, who shares an equal passion in giving her life away in service to God and others.
