State Representative Wick Thomas has announced a community
update and listening session to provide the latest details and gather input on the new Kansas City Psychiatric Hospital project, planned for Belvidere Park.
The hospital is a partnership between the State of Missouri, University Health, and the City of Kansas City to offer inpatient psychiatric care for at least 200 people experiencing a mental health crisis. It is expected to open in 2029 and will help ease pressure on emergency rooms and local jails while providing better care closer to home.
Nearly $300 million in state funding was approved to help make the project possible. Attendees will hear short updates from:
· State Rep. Wick Thomas
· Sharon Freese (University Health)
· Megan Roedel and Dale Cassmeyer (Missouri Department of Mental Health)
· Shayne Martin (Office of Administration)
“It is vital that the community is heard and has a seat at the table in the development of this mental health facility,” stated Thomas, D-Kansas City. “This hospital is a real opportunity to improve mental health care in our area. I want Northeast Kansas City neighbors to come share their thoughts and help shape the project.”
