The study will assess transit options between downtown Kansas City, Missouri to downtown Independence, Missouri. This 9-mile stretch of Independence Avenue is one of the mostly densely populated and diverse areas in the region. This study is seeking an optimal way to connect these two destinations with a premier BRT service while maintaining a level of local transit service as well. The project could potentially result in the first East-West BRT route in Kansas City history. The connection to Downtown Independence, Missouri would also be the first time a service of this caliber would serve an area outside of Kansas City, Missouri. The project team began initial study activities in January 2018 to include data analysis and a review of existing conditions and transit operations along the corridor. Advisory Committee Meetings, which are free and open to the public, will be held on at the offices of the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce located at 2657 Independence Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64124.
