The History of PRIDE

Are you aware that there is a Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce ?

Some LGBTQIA+ Businesses are right here in NE and hundreds in KCMO. To name a few:

Whim Productions, The Stevens House, Clay And Wick & Scrape the Plate Catering

What does LGBTQIA+ mean?

LGBTQIA+ is an acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning. It’s an umbrella term for people who are not heterosexual or who don’t identify with the sex they were assigned at birth. The term “queer” is often used to describe fluid identities and orientations, and is sometimes used interchangeably with LGBTQIA+.

Other terms related to LGBTQIA+ include:

  • Ally: A person who supports LGBTQ people and promotes equality, even though they are not LGBTQ themselves
  • Gender dysphoria: A condition that causes significant distress when a person’s assigned birth gender is different from their gender identity
  • Intersex: A term used to describe people with sex characteristics that don’t fit traditional conceptions of male or female bodies
  • Asexual: A term used to describe people who don’t experience sexual attraction
  • Nonbinary: A term used to describe people whose gender is not male or female

Be sure to come to the Coffee to find out what the + means.
